Tuesday, April 10, 2012 Dear Rockcliffe Park Public School parents, The RPPS School Council Executive regret to inform you that we have discovered financial irregularities in the School Council bank account. The programs that may be impacted are milk, pizza (which funds the grade 6 trip) and Homework Club (the after-school program for grades 3-6). The School Council Executive is taking steps to ensure continuity of those programs. The School Council Executive has initiated an audit of School Council finances and a police investigation is underway. We have now gathered sufficient information to allow us to provide parents with a preliminary report, although we do not yet have a complete financial picture. We do know that approximately $70,000 appears to be missing from the bank account. The School Council Executive first became aware of some late payment issues in February, 2012. We investigated, and while some issues were addressed, others remained unresolved by March. We initiated an audit and made a police report. The School Council Executive is committed to working with the parent community to ensure the continuation of programs. It is important to note that irregularities are in NO WAY associated with Rockcliffe Park Public School accounts, or reflect on the accounting practices of the school administration and staff. In the same vein, the significant funds raised through RPPS’s Book Fair from 2011 have been provided to the school, are secure and accounted for in the school account, and have already been benefiting all students in the school. Book Fair has its own rigorous accounting practices. Krys Albrecht, the Treasurer for Book Fair, has an excellent reputation as an accountant and is NOT involved in any way with the School Council accounts. The regularly scheduled School Council meeting will be today, April 10th, at 7 PM in the school. All parents are welcome to attend. Additional information will be provided at that time. If you are unable to attend the meeting but have questions, please email us at RPPSparents@gmail.com, and they will be answered within 72 hours. Please note that children are not allowed in the meeting room. Sincerely, Your School Council Executive Update - Bettye Hyde has offered childcare services tonight.
